What Is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a GHRH analog that stimulates somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary to release endogenous growth hormone. Unlike recombinant human growth hormone, sermorelin works upstream by signaling the pituitary rather than supplying growth hormone directly.

Sermorelin was previously marketed in the United States as Geref. FDA records show that the product was discontinued from marketing for reasons other than safety or effectiveness.

How Sermorelin Signals

What Does the Research Show?

Human research confirms that sermorelin can stimulate growth-hormone secretion from the pituitary. Its best-established clinical evidence comes from pediatric growth-hormone deficiency and from its historical use as a diagnostic stimulus of pituitary growth-hormone reserve.

In a multicenter study of growth-hormone-deficient children, once-daily subcutaneous GHRH-(1-29) increased average height velocity during the first year of treatment. Reviews of sermorelin also describe generally good tolerability in those studied populations, with transient facial flushing and injection-site discomfort among the more commonly reported adverse effects.

Evidence supporting contemporary adult wellness uses—such as body composition, sleep, recovery, or anti-aging—is substantially more limited and should not be inferred from pediatric growth studies.
