What Is SS-31?

SS-31 is a small peptide designed to concentrate within mitochondria—the structures responsible for producing much of the energy used by cells.

Research has focused on its interaction with cardiolipin, a phospholipid found in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Through this interaction, SS-31 has been studied for its effects on mitochondrial structure, electron transport, oxidative stress, and cellular energy production.

The pharmaceutical form of SS-31 is known as elamipretide. Research involving elamipretide provides considerably more human clinical data than many peptides commonly discussed in the wellness setting.
